Anais Nin pg 68- She was born in France in 1903. She was a writer of diaries and novels that were known for their explicit eroticism.She was also known for her affairs with Henry Miller, Edmund Wilson, Gore Vidal and Otto Rank.

Illegal immigrants pg 104-105:
  • California hosts about 40% of the nation's estimated 3.4 million illegal immigrants. (Time, November 21, 1994)
  •  In November 1994, California passed by a 59% to 41% vote Proposition 187, a bill that denies certain social privileges, mainly welfare, public schooling, and non-emergency medical care, to illegal immigrants. (The New York Times, November 11, 1994)

Travel Tracer Chapters 6-8

Chapter 6- America has began going out of the canyon to look for work and tragiclly meets a creep by the name of Jose Navidad. Fortunately, she and another woman, Mary, get a job. Candido gets worried when she doesn't come back to him so he goes to look for her.

Chapter 7- Delaney goes to the supermarket where he runs into Jack and they begin to talk about the events that had transpired throughout the last couple of days. The next day, Delaney decides to go hiking but his hike gets ruined when he walks into a couple of Mexican's camp site. Delaney's car was gone; apparently someone stoled it.

Chapter 8- Jack Jr. destroyed America and Candido's place so they had to relocate. The next day Candido and America went to look for work. Later, when America comes back from work, she buys food and waits for Candido. It gets late so she decides to go back to the canyon where Jose and his friend attack and rape her.

Researcher Chapters 1-5

The fiction book, The Tortilla Curtain, was published in 1995 by the American author T. C. Boyle. This novel turned out to be one of his most successful books.
T. C. Boyle or Tom Coraghessan Boyle was born December 2, 1948 has published approximately 14 novels and over 100 short stories. Originally his name was Thomas John Boyle but at the age of 17, he decided to change his middld namd to his current one. After graduating from college, he proceeded to go back to his high school and teach for four years. He also worked as a fiction editor in the Iowa Review and as different types of professor positions at the University of Southern California. Throughout the years Boyle has won a great handful of awards and recognition for his work.

          Reason: the word is repeated a lot because Candido reffers to him as gabacho.4

          Reason: unknown vocab and wanted to question reader on how they approached it.
